Improving teaching and learning – overview
Getting it right for the learner starts with an awareness of how adults approach learning. Click here for the key principles of Adult Learning (11KB).
If you are a Subject Learning Coach, explore these principles in your subject coaching networks and share the outcomes with your colleagues.
The challenge is to build on these principles and to ensure that what is taught and how it is taught is:
- relevant to learners
- challenges them to fulfill their maximum potential
- takes account of their safety and well-being; and
- takes account of any learning support needs they may have.
Outcomes
Getting it right is likely to result in learners who:
- stay on their course because they are getting what they want
- are active and independent and who continue learning between sessions
- in activity-based disciplines, improve their personal well-being and their ability to lead an independent life; and
- experience the benefits of inclusion and respect and show it to their peers.
