Preparing for assessment
Early on in the design of your course, workshop or learning programme, plan how you are going to tackle initial, formative and summative assessment.
Discuss the matter with learners early on in their programme, so that they can begin to develop some expectations of themselves. In some circumstances, learners may have some good proposals for assessment activities that you can use. You may be able to involve them in assessing themselves or in peer assessment.
Incorporate assessment activities into your scheme of work and session plans. This will ensure that you don't lose sight of them and that you have evidence that you are applying Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement (RARPA).
Decide how and where you are going to record and hold assessment evidence. This can sometimes be problematic in adult learning with its multiple venues.
If you are a Subject Learning Coach, explore with your colleagues how you can develop a team approach to assessment for learning.
