Student:
I have osteoarthritis and I've had a knee replacement and I do have problems with my spine. My physiotherapist recommended that I came here. I have improved no end. When I had my knee replacement I took a long time to recover because I hadn't got any muscle tone in my knee or thighs at all, and I couldn't do the exercises that were necessary, now I've got really hard muscles now, and my husband is quiet surprised when I say feel my muscle, but I have improved in muscle tone a lot.

Think about how you would continue a discussion with this learner to arrive at an agreed personal learning goal for the future and some fitness-related targets that she could work towards in the short- to medium-term. Think about what questions you would need to ask her. Consider how you might use a camcorder in your own sessions to help review progress and capture achievement.
Sport and fitness tutors often struggle with the idea of how to gauge learners' progress in their classes, and how to capture achievement. In the first two of these clips, learners provide some insights about their personal goals and how they measure their progress.
These video clips themselves would provide evidence of RARPA in action, but we ask you to think how you might develop the process of progress review more fully.
In the third clip, a tutor talks about the value of carrying out assessment in her core conditioning class, and how this helps her recognise what further help learners need.
