Issues - accessibility
Not everyone can access written information or web-based information easily. Alternative versions of the screening questionnaire should be available for people who do not read and write English fluently, and for people with disabilities. You need to make it clear how they can get hold of these versions. Alternatively, arrange to see these enquirers on a one-to-one basis with addtional support where appropriate.
"Many of the learners in my t'ai chi group are of Chinese origin. Our screening form is a bilingual one. I have translated all the questions into Cantonese to make sure that everyone can understand."
Sherman, t'ai chi tutor.
"We run a seated exercise group for Asian women. It has been easier for us to make an audio translation of the questions on our readiness-to-exercise form, than to get the form translated. But we think that the audio version is a better solution from the learners' point of view, anyway. They can understand immediately what's being asked, and don't have to worry about reading anything."
Mary, Sport and fitness manager.
