Skills for Life

The National Teaching and Learning Change Programme (NTLCP) has produced a Guide specifically for Subject Learning Coaches on Skills for Life. The Guide is for use across all the subjects included within the NTLCP and is packed with useful information about the government's Skills for Life policy and strategy. It gives some very helpful pointers to how Subject Learning Coaches can work with subject tutors to raise their awareness of Skills for Life issues and incorporate Skills for Life approaches into their subject teaching and training. It is especially relevant to vocational tutors who want to embed literacy, language and numeracy in their teaching, training and learning. Some of the terminology and examples used in the Guide are written in the context of vocational education and training taking place, for example, in further education colleges and work based learning providers. However, the content provides a thorough overview of the Skills for Life strategy, which will be very useful, particularly if contextualised into Adult Learning. You will find that the approaches can be adapted for most subjects where learners need to improve their literacy, language or numeracy to make good progress or succeed. You will be able to develop these approaches in your subject coaching networks.
