I make them use the target language as much as possible. This specific level is a level 3, lower intermediate so they have the tools, they have a lot of vocabulary and they know grammar, they know a lot of grammar so they are prepared to do that anyway.

I think for me the point of doing the course is to learn to speak Spanish, it's not an exam course, it's a course where I just want to be able to go to Spain and speak in Spanish and not feel like an idiot and not do the usual English thing of shouting louder until they understand — so it is a class where you do talk a lot and you have to, that's what it's about …
Female learner 3:

Tutor:
We've used a target language all the time in class and explanations are being done in Spanish and I think that is very important as well because it's virtually hundred per cent target language.
